4'x4', oil on canvas by celebrated local artist, Nicholas Coley. Born in Connecticut in 1971 and raised in Muir Beach, California, Mr. Coley, studied art at L'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Aix-en-Provence and at the Marchutz school in Le Tholonet, France. He holds a BA in painting from the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, and lived, studied, and painted for a year in a Vietnamese Buddhist Monastery in southwestern France.  A familiar face in the woods at San Francisco's Presidio, Coley's art is often likened to the Impressionists and the The Society of Six. Unafraid of color, his palette is completely dependent on the weather and runs the gamut from intense oranges to cool blue-greens. By using such fervent color, almost reminiscent of the Fauves, Coley succeeds at a difficult task-- arousing emotion from viewing a landscape painting.

Whole Foods Market is located on 731 East Blithedale Ave, in Mill Valley, California. It opened in June of 2010. Set up like a farmer's market roadside stand, customers enter the store through two wooden roll up doors into the produce department. Know as the most "local" store with hundreds of local products and produce. The building is a green achievement. 75% of the waste generated from the former facility was recycled or reused. The bike wheels hanging above the cash registers were saved from the landfill. The tile mosaic in the bakery was made from seconds and overruns. The light shades hanging in the cafe were made from corrugated cardboard. They say "We are green from the studs out."
